Dove Romans 12-18 cropped shrunkSome people just love disagreements.  There are those that take “the other side” just for fun.  The Greeks viewed lawsuits as sport.  People within the Corinthian church were fighting with each other; this was very upsetting to the apostle Paul.

If disputes arose in the church, from the Jewish point of view, they were to be settled inside the church; it was inconceivable to take the matter to a secular court.  But conflicts can be a sign of an inward focus, a loss of the focus on following Jesus.  Ultimately, the church in dispute is not functioning like a “body of believers.”  Instead, we are called to live at peace with everyone where possible.
