Sermon June 30, 2013: Unity

DSCN9630Paul wrote a beautiful benediction to the Corinthians in 1 Corinthians 4.

It’s not about what is God’s exact plan for my life, but rather who does God want me to be. If I work on who God wants me to be, the “doing” part works itself out.  Work on the character; the plan will take care of itself.  As we work on character, God will lead us along step-by-step.

You can’t do right until you “be” right.  Be completely humble and gentle.  Be patient, bearing with one another in love.  We are all desperately broken people, except for the life and the hope that we have through Jesus Christ.  We are no better than the next person.  We Christians are no better than the non-Christians – they just haven’t been to the doctor yet.  Church is not for the well; it is for the sick.  We need to continually grow, and realize that we are not OK without Christ.

If you are loud, be gentle.  If you are driven, be gentle. Especially in the church.

Get you BearWithNess on.  Practice “bear-with-ness.”  Somebody may irritate you, may anger you, may make you sad, but you need to bear with them.

Do it all in love.  Methods change, the message never changes.  Style changes, but substance never changes.  The substance is Jesus Christ, crucified for sinners like you and me.  Make every effort to keep the unity of spirit through the bond of peace.  Do you want real freedom? Know what God wants you to be, and be it.  Listen as Pastor Dan shares from his heart and God’s word.
