A tithe of everything… from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD.

  • Surrendered finances are the first sign of a surrendered heart; not the last.
    tithe: ma` aser (mah-as-ayr’); a tenth.
  • Average Christian gives about 2% of their income.
  • Fewer than 3% of Christians tithe.

TWO KINDS OF BUSINESSES

  1. THE CURSED BUSINESS.
Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How do we rob you?’ “In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse-the whole nation of you-because you are robbing me. (Malachi 3:8-9)
rob: qaba` (kaw-bah’); defraud, rob, spoil, embezzle.

    • If I don’t tithe, I’m embezzling from God.
You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it. (Haggai 1:6)
  2. THE BLESSED BUSINESS.
I will prevent pests from devouring your crops…says the LORD Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed” (Malachi 3:11-12)

    • 90% with God’s blessing is far more than 100% without it.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. (Malachi 3:10)

TITHING AND THE THREE MONTH CHALLENGE
THE TITHE IS THE STARTING POINT!
…You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law-justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. (Matthew 23:23-24)

Life Questions

  1. Have you ever stolen something? If so, how did it make you feel? (Remember, not tithing is stealing from God.)
  2. If you’re not tithing, what’s holding you back?
  3. If you are tithing, encourage others with stories of God’s faithfulness.
