Strife Simple Definition: very angry or violent disagreement between two or more people or groups.

• Occasionally for entertainment (trolling)
• Sometimes out of ignorance
• Usually to assert/gain real or perceived superiority

When one of Paul’s churches was having a stupid argument, he responded…
For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. (Galatians 5:14-15)

1. Choose to not play, even when invited!

Starting a quarrel is like opening a floodgate, so stop before a dispute breaks out. (17:14)

A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends. (16:28)

2. Recognize…

… you’re not always right.
Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. (13:10)

… it often doesn’t matter
Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. (Romans 14:1)

… it may not be your business.
Like one who grabs a stray dog by the ears is someone who rushes into a quarrel not their own. (26:17)

3. Defend peace…

Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down. (26:20)

Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease. (22:10, ESV)

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. (Galatians 5:14-15)
