Sermon December 31, 2017: Happy New Year!?

Today Pastor Dan’s message is titled “Who Needs Christmas?” and his scripture reference is parts of Genesis 12:1 – Galatians 4:4. Listen and follow along:

1. We can’t control our 2018, but we can control our mindset.

But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, (Philippians 3:13)

We don’t forget the past, but we don’t live there.

  • You can get “stuck” in past failures.
  • You can get “stuck” in past successes.
  • We can even make our old disasters seem not so bad.

We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost—also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic. But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!” (Numbers 11:5-6)
2. We can’t control our 2018, but we can control our efforts.

  • No effort = no results.
  • Growing spiritually doesn’t happen by magic.
  • The basics for being spiritually alive…

Worship
Fellowship
Discipleship
Evangelism
Ministry/Service
Prayer
3. We can’t control our 2018, but we can control our expectations.
If we choose to know and follow Jesus, we will experience…
…the power of his resurrection and…

… participation in his sufferings

  • The good times and the bad times happen at the same time.
