Christmas Services At GGNaz

You're invited to join us at GGNaz on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning for a very special time of family celebration and sharing.

Christmas Eve: 5:00 pm
Join us as we gather under the stars around the warmth of the fire (pits) to roast marshmallows, sing carols and light candles in praise to our Lord Jesus on the night before Christmas. If the weather does not cooperate, we will meet indoors (without the fire!).

Christmas Day: 10:00 am
On Christmas morning at 10:00 am, we'll have a very special service with a message from our pastor, carols and special music. There will also be a special treat during the service just for kids!

Take an hour out of your busy Christmas schedule to reflect on God’s gift to us… His one and only Son, Jesus Christ. Bring a friend with you!

The whole neighborhood is invited this Sunday evening, October 30th, for our Trunk -n-Treat Festival in the lower and north parking lots from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Costumes, food, entertainment...lots of fun for kids, teens, and adults. Something foreveryone!

Our Social Committee is combining with GGNaz Samoan for this excitingnight-before-Halloween event.

Admission is free and there is no age limit. Costumes are encouraged with prizesfor different categories. You can also decorate your car!

GGNaz Picnic in the Park

Join us for this annual event at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley. We have reserved the same shelter as last year (site #1). Meet at the park after our Morning Worship service (around 12 noon). Bring your own food and beverages and some food to share. Also, bring lawn chairs or blankets, games, etc. Stay as long as you like. All ages and all congregations are invited.

What Are You Doing for Others?

Martin Luther King, Jr., said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” In a world increasingly dominated by unapologetic selfishness, this idea may seem quaint and outdated. Yet, for those who have a grand vision of their purpose and value, striving to be of service is not only a noble thing to do, it’s the best way to lead a truly fulfilling and significant life.

Poet William Allen Dromgoole put it this way:

An old man going a lone highway
Came at the evening, cold and grey,
To a chasm, vast and deep and wide,
Through which was flowing a swollen tide.

The old man crossed in the twilight dim.
That swollen stream held no fears for him,
But he paused when safe on the other side
And built a bridge to span the tide.

‘Old man,’ said a fellow pilgrim near,
‘You’re wasting strength with building here.
Your journey ends with the ending day.
You never again must pass this way.
You’ve crossed this chasm deep and wide.

IT IS TIME TO SIGN UP FOR OUR ALL-CHURCH CAMPING WEEKEND

Our third annual Lake Hemet All-Church Family Camping Weekend is scheduled for Friday, August 19 through Sunday, August 21. Bring your tent, trailer, or RV (no hook-ups in group camping). Camping cost is just $8 per person for the entire weekend. This does not include food! Bring your own food, camping gear, etc. There will be an additional charge, yet to be determined, if you wish to partake of the Saturday night BBQ dinner.

If you plan to do any fishing, a valid California fresh water fishing license is required for everyone 16 years old and over. See Dave or Jason Kindell if you have any questions or to sign up, as soon as possible. We need to give an approximate head count by July 19

America's Powerful Document

A reporter for The Arizona Republic once asked 11 citizens why the Declaration of Independence was still relevant today. Here is a summary of their comments:
“It is like a Bible that has been in the family for generations.”
“It is one of the world’s most precious documents.”
“It is a living breathing document with basic values underlying it.”
“It began with some rabble-rousers who believed we should be free, that we should be able to choose our own destiny.”
“The document is very much alive. It is organic. It is not archival material. It is real.”

A pastor, Dr. William H. Stewart Sr., of the First Institutional Baptist Church, summarized the general consensus with these words: “It is one of the greatest documents that has ever been written about people seeking freedom from an oppressive power.”
While political and personal freedoms are not the equivalent of spiritual freedom in Christ, they are blessings that should be available to all. Jesus, after all, identified himself as one coming to “proclaim release to the captives” (Luke 4:18).

The Fate of the Revolutionaries

We call them heroes. The British called them traitors. Many of them turned out to be martyrs. Here is what happened to some of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence:

Five were captured and tortured as traitors.
Nine joined the revolutionary army, fought and died.
Eight had property looted by the British army or by vandals.
One signer’s home was taken over by a British general. The owner, Thomas Nelson Jr., asked General Washington to burn the home down. General Washington did.
The home of Francis Lewis was destroyed and his wife put in jail. She died shortly thereafter.
Three had their fields and mills destroyed.
In one way or another, all of the men paid a dear price as a result of their rebellion. Still they were faithful to the pledge they made on July 4, 1776:
“We, therefore, the Representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by the Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States …. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

Flooding in Pakistan

Please pray for the more than 1,200 homeless Nazarene families in Pakistan due to the recent flooding and for the many others needing help, not associated with our denomination. Kids' Kamp

Anaheim District Kids’ Kamp will be held the week of July 18-22 at Mile High Pines (halfway up to Big Bear). The cost is $275 per child. At this writing, we have ten children signed up to go, and ten adults and teens going as counselors and staff. Please pray for safety, and that God’s hand will bless our camp.

The Price of Freedom (Thoughts on Memorial Day)

In the song “What Did He die For?” Twila Paris reminds us why we observe Memorial Day—and why we worship Jesus as our Savior. The first verse tells of a 21-year-old-soldier fighting for America’s freedom during World War II. The second verse recalls another young man, many centuries prior, sent by his Father to win eternal freedom from sin for the entire world.

The chorus offers this challenge:
What did he die for when he died for you and me,
Made the sacrifice so that we could all be free?
I believe we will answer each to heaven for the way we spend a priceless liberty.
Look inside and ask the question, What did he die for?”

Memorial Day challenges us to live so as to honor the sacrifices made by members of the military. We value our freedom because of the heavy price people have paid for it. Like wise, every day we are challenged to love so as to honor Jesus’ supreme sacrifice. Our Social committee would like to reserve tickets for the July 1 “Freeway Series” game with the Dodgers. Game time is 7:05PM. Teen Activities

A Note About February

This little article may seem kind of strange to you…and I know that February is almost over… but if you’re inclined…keep reading anyway.
I’m writing a bit about February (from a guy who enjoys most sports). February is actually a month when there isn’t much going on. Now I understand…the Super Bowl is in February… but not really. It’s more connected to January…college bowl games…NFL playoff games… January is a great month for sports fans. Then there’s the Super Bowl, and that’s usually
great, but then it’s all over.
Like I said, February is a month when there isn’t much going on. In fact, someone (not me) once said that’s the reason why Valentine’s Day is right in the middle of February, so sports fans don’t get in trouble!
Now March is a whole different story…pro baseball spring training begins…college basketball March Madness…plenty going on in March! But February is a month when there isn’t much going on.
So what is a sports fan to do? Just this…take a step back…look around…and see and appreciate what else is going on in the world. Actually lots of great stuff is going on around us every day! Of course there’s Valentine’s Day… that’s a pretty important day! Then there is President’s Day…we could think on that a little while…but most importantly it’s when there isn’t much going on, that we’re really passionate about, that we can step back and be reminded that “every day is a day that the Lord has made, and we can rejoice and be glad in it!” (Psalm 118:24)
In fact, whether you’re a sports fan or not, whatever it is that you look forward to…whatever it is that you’re a “fan” of…recognize that there is amazing perspective to be found in the days where there is just not much going on! Actually, on those days where we just can’t find anything to be passionate about, if we will step back and listen, we will likely hear a whispered voice in our ear prompting us to “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

Is your child attending Sunday School? We offer grade-based curriculum, and we have wonderful teachers. If your child is not regularly attending, he/she is missing out on some quality Bible teaching! Our 2011 Winter Choir Session will continue on Sunday night, February 27 at 5:00 pm. Anyone who is interested in learning more about music and would like to make new friends is welcome to join us. We'll be leading worship on Sunday morning, March 6.

A Pastor Writes to His People

Long-term relationships go through cycles: ups and downs, hills and valleys, good times and bad. That's true in our spiritual life, too. For many of us, our spiritual life begins with a very powerfully personal relationship with Christ. We can feel like we are on top of a mountain and have laid claim to the most important thing in all the world. And that strong and powerful feeling can stay with us and propel us for months and even years.
But I don't think I have ever found anyone who has said that they have been able to maintain that state of spiritual ecstasy throughout the entire course of their life. Sooner or later, we find ourselves in a spiritual valley.
I talked to a woman the other day who explained her situation exactly like that. "Yes, it's true," she said, "I've been away from church for a long time. But you know, it goes deeper than that. I've not really had much of a spiritual life for a good number of years now. I don't know why. I used to be on fire for the Lord. I couldn't get enough of church. I read the Bible all of the time and prayed all
the time too. I found ways to serve Christ every single day. But I guess the 'newness' of it all wore off and I just lost interest."
But then she said, "I feel something stirring in me again. Could it be the Holy Spirit? And I feel like I want to come back and start walking on my spiritual journey again."
She really put into words what all of us experience if we enter into a relationship with the Lord. It doesn't stay on the mountaintop forever. There are valleys and great stretches of desert. We could very well "drop out" and even move in a different direction.
But those down cycles don't last forever and more often than not there come brand-new stirrings in the heart. What would it mean for you to "fall in love all over again" with the One whom Revelation 2:4 calls our "first love"? This is a great time to come back home to the Lord, your first love, and renew at an even deeper and more seasoned level the most important relationship any of us will ever have in life.

Beliefs

We have sixteen "Articles of Faith" that define our beliefs.

I. The Triune God
We believe in one God, the creator of all things, who reveals himself as Father, Son, and Spirit.

II. Jesus Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man at the same time, who became like us to bring about our salvation.

III. The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is active in the world, bringing us to salvation.

IV. The Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God, giving us all we need to know about how to be saved.

V. Sin, Original and Personal
We believe that we are all sinners by both nature and act and need God's forgiveness and cleansing.

VI. Atonement
We believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross and that, by trusting in His death, we can be restored to a right relation to God.

VII. Free Agency
We believe that God has enabled us to turn to Him from sin but that He has not forced us to do so.

VIII. Repentance
We believe that each person must repent, turn away from his sins, and trust Christ to accept him.

IX. Justification, Regeneration, and Adoption
We believe that when we turn from sin and trust in Christ, the old record of sin is wiped clean, and we are born anew, thus becoming part of the family of God.

X. Entire Sanctification
We believe that after being born anew, we need the fullness of God's Spirit in our hearts. When we make a complete commitment to Him, He cleanses our spirit, fills us with His perfect love, and gives us the power to live victoriously.

XI. The Church
We believe God has called his people to express their new life in Him through unity and fellowship in the body of the church.

XII. Baptism
We believe in baptism and urge people to be baptized as Christians.

XIII. The Lord's Supper
We believe in the Lord's Supper.

XIV. Divine Healing
We believe that God can heal. We pray for healing. We also believe that God can work through medical science.

XV. Second Coming of Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is coming again.

XVI. Resurrection, Judgment, and Destiny
We believe that everyone will face the judgment of God with its rewards and punishments.

Morning Worship Service
Sundays at 10:00 am in the Sanctuary. Children’s Church is provided for school age children. Nursery care is provided for pre-school children and infants. Our Sunday morning worship service offers solid biblical preaching and a blend of music styles. It is a time for the whole family to come together and enjoy God’s presence. We invite you to worship with us here at GGNaz!

Spanish Worship Service
Sunday mornings, with Bible Study at 9:00 a.m. and Worship at 10:00 a.m.

Arabic Worship Service
Sundays at 12:00 noon in the Sanctuary.

Samoan Worship Service
Sunday evenings at 5:00 pm in the Sanctuary.
