Annual Faith Promise Weekend February 9 & 10, 2013

GGNaz NMI presents “Visiting Sri Lanka”

Our guest speaker will be Rob North. Rob is Senior Administrator for Nazarene Missions International (NMI). Part of his role is to share the exciting things happening around the World through missions to districts and local churches.

This year our Faith Promise Weekend includes the following:

Men’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, February 9 at HomeTown Buffet in the Garden Grove Promenade (northwest corner of Brookhurst and Chapman).  Men of all ages are invited to attend at 8:00AM. Cost: Adults $6.49, Seniors $5.49, Kids $4.99.

Faith Promise Dinner on Saturday, February 9 in the church fellowship hall. The dinner will begin at 6:00PM. The menu and cost have not been decided. Watch for more information in our Sunday bulletin and on this website as it becomes available.

The grand finale will be our Faith Promise Service on Sunday, February 10 at 10:00AM. At the conclusion of this service “Promise” cards will be distributed for you to pray about and return, indicating what, with God’s help, you will give for missions throughout the year.

Please be in prayer for this exciting weekend and for the Nazarene missionaries around the world.

The Kerr Family Is Visiting Us Again!

The Kerr family, our 2009 L.I.N.K.S. Missionaries, will be visiting and sharing with us at our Sunday morning worship service on Sunday, April 29 at 10:00 am. During this all-church service, David and Rosie will be sharing about their life as missionaries in Papua New Guinea.

David was a public school teacher of history and biology. Now he is a professor at the Melanesian Nazarene Bible College. Rosie is a Family Practice doctor at the Kudjip Nazarene Hospital. She has also been a Sunday School teacher, ladies’ Bible study leader and an invaluable partner with Dave in his ministry. The Kerrs have two daughters, Grace and Anna.

Stay for the potluck after the service!

Following morning worship, we’ll have an all-church potluck with our missionary guests!

  • If your last name begins with A-J, please bring a main dish.
  • If your name begins with K-Z, please bring a side dish or dessert.

Plan on a fun time of fellowship!

A Special Celebration to Honor Missions Education

Congratulations to everyone who read all of the 2011-12 missionary books this year!

The GGNaz Missions Council said thank you, this past Sunday, to our church family for supporting missions throughout the year. They also said a very special thank you to everyone who has read or listened to all six 2011-12 Missions Books. It was a fun evening with ice cream and a wide assortment of toppings. Scoops and toppings were only 25 cents, but free for the avid readers. We had a lot of fun singing a few “vintage” Sunday school songs (hand motions and all!).

Knowledge leads to compassion

The Church of the Nazarene has a great tradition of adult missions education. Every year, Nazarene Missions International publishes a set of books that tell the stories of men and women all over the world, from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, who heed the call to serve.  NMI describes their mission best:

Knowledge is key to involvement. With an understanding of the needs of the world and what the church is doing to meet those needs, we are more likely to commit to the support of missions through prayer, giving, communication, and going. (From www.nmi.nazarene.com.)

The GGNaz Missions Council works hard to make missions learning fun. If you would like to read some of this year’s books, email church-office@ggnaz.org or talk to our Nazarene Missions International President, Debbie Johnson at church this Sunday. You can also check out Mission Connection Magazine or visit the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries website.
