
In this Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Jim says that to be the Church…to be a participating member of the Body of Christ…we are called to seek with every ounce of our being to be Christ-like.
The Church of Jesus Christ has been hurt the most by those who claim His name, yet live their lives in a manner that is contradictory to who Christ is.
Two Passions Must Guide The Church:
- The passion to stay aligned with the will of God whatever the cost.
- The passion to reach those who do not know Christ and to help them to discover and embrace a right relationship with Christ.
‘You are the light of the world – like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”

As we continue to examine the question, “What is the church?”, Pastor Jim takes us back to the very beginning – Jesus’ exchange with Peter, the rock upon which he built His Church.
The church is a place where followers of Christ come together in unison to say “Yes” to one thing…the authority of the resurrected Christ in the totality of their lives. But when the church is made up of individuals from different backgrounds and ages with different experiences, it can be hard to achieve unity of heart, to forgive and make allowance for each others’ faults.
To kick off the new year, Pastor Jim begins a series that reflect on the question, “What is a church?” Many things come to mind:
